The City of Nice

Between Sea and Mountains...

Nice, the capital of the French Riviera, is an unmissable destination for those seeking a unique blend of culture, stunning landscapes, and the French art of living. Nestled between the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, this city enjoys an idyllic and sunny setting almost year-round.

Old Nice

With its narrow alleyways, colorful façades, and lively markets such as the Cours Saleya Market, Old Nice is the historic and vibrant heart of the city.

Visitors can discover local specialties such as socca, the famous Niçois chickpea pancake, as well as olives and many regional products.

The Promenade des Anglais

The Promenade des Anglais is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic places on the French Riviera.

Stretching for several kilometers, this famous avenue runs along the Bay of Angels, with pebble beaches and the Mediterranean Sea on one side, and prestigious landmarks on the other, such as the elegant Hotel Negresco and the Art Deco-style Palais de la Méditerranée.

Its name dates back to the 19th century, when many British aristocrats came to spend the winter in Nice to enjoy the Riviera’s mild climate. They played a major role in the development of this promenade, which has since become an international symbol of the city.

Among the promenade’s most iconic features are the famous blue chairs facing the Mediterranean Sea.

Sitting there for a few minutes and simply admiring the sea is almost part of the true Niçois experience.

La Colline du Château - Castle Hill

Castle Hill is one of the most beautiful sites in Nice and undoubtedly the best place to admire the entire Bay of Angels.

Overlooking the city and the sea, this large green hill offers spectacular panoramic views over the Promenade des Anglais, Old Nice, the port, and the surrounding hills.

In the past, the hill was home to an important military fortress and the Castle of Nice. Destroyed at the beginning of the 18th century on the orders of Louis XIV, the site today preserves a few historical remains as well as a magnificent public park much loved by both locals and visitors.

At the summit, one of the most famous attractions is the large artificial waterfall visible from parts of the city. The sound of the water, the Mediterranean vegetation, and the viewpoints over the sea give the place a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

Several paths and many staircases lead to the top of Castle Hill. The climb passes through charming walkways already offering beautiful views over the sea and Old Nice.

From the end of the Promenade des Anglais and the Old Town side, a free elevator also allows visitors to reach almost the summit effortlessly… at least when it’s

working! 😜

The Rauba-Capeù War Memorial

Rauba-Capeù War Memorial is one of the most impressive and moving monuments in Nice.

Located at the foot of Castle Hill, between Old Nice and the port, it faces the Mediterranean Sea in a spectacular setting.

Built after the World War I, this memorial pays tribute to the people of Nice who died for France. It is directly carved into the cliffside rock, giving it a monumental and particularly striking appearance.

Inaugurated in 1928, the monument was designed by architect Roger Séassal. With its immense white arch overlooking the sea, it has become one of the symbols of Nice’s seafront.

The site is also famous for its exceptional location on Quai Rauba-Capeù, whose name in the Niçois language means “where the wind steals hats.”

The area is often quite windy, but it offers magnificent panoramic views over the Mediterranean Sea and the coastline.

La coulée Verte - The Green Corridor

Also known as the Promenade du Paillon, the Green Corridor is one of the most beautiful urban spaces in Nice.

Opened in 2013, this vast landscaped promenade stretches for more than one kilometer through the city center, linking Place Masséna to the area around the Palais des Expositions.

The Green Corridor completely transformed the heart of Nice by creating a large pedestrian space combining Mediterranean gardens, fountains, playgrounds, shaded walkways, and wide relaxation areas.

One of its most famous attractions is the water mirror installed near Place Masséna. With its water jets and spectacular reflections, it attracts both children and photographers, especially during the hot summer days.

The Green Corridor has become a true gathering place for the people of Nice.

Popular all year round, it perfectly represents the urban renewal of Nice and the desire to give more space back to greenery and pedestrians in the heart of the city.

Today, the Green Corridor is an essential place to discover another side of Nice.

La Tête Carrée - Square Head

Designed by artist Sacha Sosno, this is one of the most iconic and unique contemporary artworks in Nice. Both massive and captivating, it never fails to catch the eye of passersby.

Standing 30 meters high and 14 meters wide, this monumental sculpture was gifted to the city by its creator. With its bold and resolutely modern design, it has become a true symbol of the Côte d’Azur.

Inaugurated in 2002, the Tête Carrée is not open to the public, but it houses the administrative offices — spread across seven floors — of the Louis Nucéra Library.

Nice is also a treasure for lovers of art and culture. The Matisse Museum and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC) allow visitors to discover major works from these artistic movements.

The surrounding hills, such as Cimiez, are home to Roman ruins and peaceful gardens, providing a serene escape. The city’s baroque churches, including the Sainte-Réparate Cathedral, and its Italian-influenced architecture reflect its rich heritage.

The Nice Carnival is one of the most famous and oldest carnivals in the world, dating back to the 13th century. It takes place every year in February, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors. Each edition revolves around a different theme, often inspired by current events or popular culture. The “Carnival King” is a central figure: a massive float representing him opens and closes the festivities.

The “flower battles”  — parades of flower-decorated floats — are one of the highlights of the carnival. Participants throw thousands of flowers to the crowd from the floats.

The floats, often satirical, are adorned with papier-mâché sculptures created by local artists. Numerous music groups, dancers, and street performers bring the streets of Nice to life during the celebration.

The entire city is decorated with lights, confetti, and festive ornaments during the two weeks of festivities. The Nice Carnival is a colorful, family-friendly, and beloved event, deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Nice.
